Anarkali the Elixir of wine world

You know wine and you also know the winemaking or vinification. But in India wine has gone far ahead from Traditional Winemaking. You will find wines made from Chikoo, Mango, Litchi, Pineapple and many other fruits. Soma vine village, – A boutique winery which was the vision of Mr Pradeep Pachpatil CMD, Somanda Vineyards has successfully made a wine from pomegranate lovingly called Anarkali – pomegranate blossom.

The idea was brought into reality by acclaimed winemaker Mr Pradeep Pachpatil himself and  Mr Prashant Vidhate. The prestigious ANAR or pomegranate are sourced from Baramati. Then the pH, brix (is a way to measure the potential alcohol content of a wine by determining the sugar level in grapes) land flavours are analysed in the lab to get that perfect wine.

Making of any wine does not happen overnight. There are some challenges that has to be tackled and in this wine also there were some like being made from pomegranate, having iron content make it a oxidative style, pH is not stable at times. ANARKALI has a fermentation time for 13-14 days and temperature of 16-18 degree Celsius has to be maintained and no maceration happens.

Anarkali has antioxidant properties and excellent source of potassium iron, multivitamins which are considerably more than grape-wine. The first Anarkali made was in 2020 just before the nation went into lockdown but that didn’t stop it from shining and winning hearts of even non-wine drinkers.

Anarkali has been made in two variants suitable for palette that love dry or sweet wine. Anarkali off dry and the other sister Anarkali medium sweet both have rich garnet colour , pleasantly sharp and aromatic on the palette followed by a silky entry to fruity freshness,  good depth with tangy acidity enjoyed best at 8 –10ºC  with some dried fruits , meats and platter of cheese.
